It´s been maybe three months since I started using the discogs app for choosing what music to play at my studio. I always had an issue of trying not to forget any of my old albums but I always did. My collection ain’t that big, but it’s enough to keep fifty or so in high rotation, another hundred in the b-list and forget about all the rest of them if I am not careful. Now I have an app for that*.
So, my app has told me to play Billy Corgan’s ‘TheFutureEmbrace’ (sic) and there he is now, singing from behind a quiet wave of synthetic pulses. Right now he is saying something about loving somebody. It figures. I hadn’t listened to this CD in a long time. I remember that my old mates from my first (real) job gifted it to me in my birthday. It was kind of awkward, but nice. I think they got the idea from Bunny, my only almost-lasting friend from that time… i must have been ten years ago or so. Hell, too many.
I don’t know yet what am I going to do about this new website (if anything). It would be the third site I create in the last two months and that can’t be a good omen of anything. One thing is for sure, this time I’m starting with content first. I’m writing this kind-of-bullshit-but-also-real post before the site is even properly built up. The site looks like a stripped down version of the most generic wordpress site ever conceived. And there’s no such thing as a not generic wordpress site.
Now that I think about it, there’s almost no un-generic websites anymore. I miss (but also don’t) the old crappy days of the build-it-your-silly-way days of the internet. I miss the messed up menus that could be anywhere, the everpresent frames within frames within frames, i miss the visit counters and the flaming skull gifs. I do not miss flash sites, though. That hatred I will keep, thank you very much.
Billy is playing ultra-reverb guitar and singing soft melodies over a look-at-all-this-keys-that-I-can-press synth bass and I’m starting to doubt everything all over again.
. . . . .
* I feel the need to clarify that it’s a kind of limited app and that discogs has too many things that could be done better, but it does have a ‘random album from your collection’ widget I can put on my screen. It needs to have the discogs app running, though, so I have to open it, close it and then receive a new random album. It’s crap, but I don’t have any better option yet. Also, crap is good enough for me most of the time.
